On Friday, June 18, 2021, Rainbow Serpent co-founder Mikael Owunna joined a powerful celebration of Black art and culture at City of Asylum @ Alphabet City. The event, titled "Art As Liberation," was held in honor of Juneteenth and featured an inspiring afternoon of music, performances, visual art, and free food.

Hosted by 1Hood Media in collaboration with Mikael Owunna, Larry Ossei-Mensah, Orange Barrel Media, and the Pittsburgh Glass Center, the event brought together diverse voices from across the city. Mikael Owunna played a central role, sharing his work that blends traditional African cosmologies with contemporary art practices, embodying Rainbow Serpent's mission to create spaces for queer people of color through the transformative power of art and technology. The event was a vibrant and unifying celebration, reflecting the richness of Black art in Pittsburgh.
